This year’s competition organized by the Estonian Association of Interior Architects received a record number of entries – 94. The five-member jury, which included interior architect Vertti Kivi (Finland), interior architect Liis Tarbe, interior architect Eeva Masso, architect Karli Luik and art critic Leele Välja, has made its decision and selected 25 nominees, including 4 prize winners.

“This year, a very large number of works were submitted, from virtually every type of space. There were schools, offices, shops, restaurants, homes, a health center, a hotel, a hospital and, of course, a variety of items. All of the works were characterized by high professionalism and the task of the jury to prioritize and exclude was not easy,” commented member of the jury Leele Välja.

“It is often the case that in limited conditions – be it an old house, a sophisticated function, a limited budget, etc., often at the same time – will result in far more interesting and intriguing results than spaces born in conditions of unlimited freedom. This was also the case this time as the jury was intrigued by more complex cases. Also important are the social reach, the target group and the material opportunities, which were clearly divergent for each work. The building itself also has a role to play – for some objects, the smooth transition from external architecture to interior architecture was especially impressive,” Välja added.
